Météo France Réunion confirms this Wednesday that Bheki, now a moderate tropical storm, will not have a significant impact on the island. Only moderate rain, heavy seas in the East and South-East, and strengthening winds are expected between tonight and Friday.
Moderate tropical storm Bheki was located at 10 a.m. this Wednesday, November 20, at 710km in the East-Northeast sector of Reunion Island. It continued to move towards the West at a speed of 31km/h.
The system weakened further last night, and will continue on this same path this Wednesday and the next few days, according to the latest bulletin from Météo France Indian Ocean.
“It is a rather weakened system which should circulate near the Grandes Mascareignes archipelago (Mauritius and Reunion) on a trajectory oriented towards the southwest”

Remember that Bheki does not represent any danger for Reunion Island. It is tomorrow Thursday that it should circulate closest to us, at a weakened stage, a priori of residual depression according to forecasts. Its influence will be moderate, between Wednesday evening and Friday.
The system could bring us some rain which Météo France is already describing as “modest“. These moderate rains will initially affect the south-east tonight from Wednesday to Thursday, then the south during the day on Thursday, and finally the north and the east during the day on Friday. Even if all regions should be concerned in turn, none “significant accumulation” is not expected for the next few days.
Not even enough to remedy the current drought, according to Sébastien Langlade, head of cyclone forecasting at Météo France Réunion.
“Our island will be affected by the least active sector of the phenomenon. The “deterioration” from this evening (Wednesday) will be quite modest, particularly in terms of the amount of rain. (…) The expected watering on the island will do good (…) but will probably not regulate the drought problems experienced by certain regions of the island”

In the absence of heavy rain, it will still be necessary to pay attention to the state of the sea, underlines Sébastien Langlade.
Also, a yellow wave-submersion vigilance will come into force Thursday morning from 9 a.m., covering the entire East and South-East coast, from Champ Borne to Cap Chevron via Pointe de la Table. The sea will be rough in this area, with “average depths between 3.5 and 4m” reports the person responsible for the cyclone forecast. “You will have to be attentive“, he said.
Also note the “strengthening of the southern sector wind on the beach region and the eastern flank of the volcano, with gusts approaching 80km/h“, concludes Sébastien Langlade of Météo France, emphasizing that “this will ultimately be the most marked weather parameters of the Bheki passage”.
Finally, beyond Friday, Bheki will no longer have any influence on the island's weather.
“The passage of Bheki will not disrupt the weekend of Reunion Islanders”
