The trend on the Senegal River is currently downward and water releases at the Manantali dam have stopped. The announcement was made by Bakary Faty, Director of Water Resources Management and Planning, at the RFM microphone.
“For the past 72 hours, we have noticed a drop at the most downstream stations. I believe this is excellent news for those who feared a situation of the river overflowing in Saint-Louis. Currently, the trend of the Senegal River is 1.40 m in Saint-Louis It is also decreasing. In Bakel, the trend which was increasing has seen a considerable decrease. There, we have a trend of 3.66. Mr. Podor also, who was in an increasing situation, is decreasing. So, there are no fears at the moment for the hydraulic situation,” said Mr. Faty.
Continuing, he announced that water release operations at the Manantali dam have ceased. “There are no more fears coming from the dam. There can be no extraordinary situations which can cause rises.
