traffic on the RD994 disrupted by the temporary closure of the axis in Drôme

Major work has been undertaken on this road, where a deadly landslide occurred last August, in Drôme. Traffic is now made difficult by the developments.

On August 17, in Villeperdrix in the Drôme, a motorist lost her life due to a landslide on the RD94. A fatal accident which still has repercussions on traffic today, both in Drôme and in Hautes-Alpes.

For the past week, a diversion via the Col de Cabre, which connects the Drôme to the Hautes-Alpes, has in fact been put in place due to work on the RD94 Drôme, which should last five months.

Important detours

Direct consequence for users of the axis: the Hautes-Alpes department reported, through a press release, that this road was closed from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The deviation formalized by the Drôme and which passes through Nyons, the Col de Cabre and Aspremont, concerns both light vehicles and heavy goods vehicles.

According to the Hautes-Alpes department, this alternative route has significant repercussions “on travel distances, particularly for users of the RD994 Haut-Alpes”.

Some are led to head towards the Rhône valley to go to Nyons or even Valréas, and are therefore no longer able to pass through Rosans. The road taking the Col de Cabre represents a fairly significant detour for motorists.

“They scrape the ground”

Not far from the Col de Cabre, on the high-Alpine side, some residents have noticed an increase in vehicles crossing their communities and, more particularly, an increase in the passage of trucks.

“We recognize them because they make noise when they pass. When they turn, they scrape the ground, so we hear them from afar,” describes a resident to BFM DICI. Another highlights the dangerous behavior of certain motorists: “unfortunately, a car following trucks in the Col de Cabre, as soon as it sees a straight line, it overtakes, it does not realize that it is going to enter a village”.

An alternation on the RD 94 is planned for weekends and during the Christmas and February holidays, specifies the Hautes-Alpes department.
