Commission increases military budget for 2025
A Council of States committee approves an additional 530 million for the army to reach 1% of GDP by 2032.

Like its National counterpart, the Finance Commission of the Council of States wants 530 million francs more for the army as part of the 2025 budget. The planned cuts in international cooperation are, however, less drastic.
“The committee presents a balanced budget which respects the debt brake,” committee chairman Jakob Stark (UDC/TG) told the media on Tuesday. Like its National counterpart, the commission proposes to increase by 530 million the amounts planned for the army in 2025 by the Federal Council.
The goal is to achieve a military budget of 1% of GDP in 2032, Jakob Stark said. Until now, the right of Parliament was demanding to reach this rate in 2030.
International cooperation should suffer cuts of 30 million francs, compared to 250 million in the National Commission. The area of asylum should also scale back, notably with a reduction of 100 million for social assistance to applicants. Parliament will decide during the winter session.
