For several months now, the reform of the internship competition, implemented in 2023, has been shaking up the health sector in France. In Aude, it has already been under attack for several years, the department being considered a medical desert. On the occasion of a welcoming evening for 40 interns in Carcassonne, the CPAM and the Montreal polyclinic spoke on the subject.
Manage to make yourself more attractive. This was the motto during the welcome evening, Thursday November 14, for the 40 interns who arrived in Aude to carry out their internship. The event saw various stakeholders come together, starting with Carcassonne Agglo and the Castelnaudary Lauragais Audois community of communes, the main organizers, but also medical practices.
Antoine Bourdon, director of CPAM within the department, was one of today's guests. It takes a general look at the current context, particularly affected by the reform of the internship competition which has reduced the number of positions at the national level: “Vigilance is increased. Since today's interns are tomorrow's doctors. Two notable phenomena have been observed in Aude. Firstly, the higher average age of active workers, which leads to departures 'being not necessarily replaced Secondly, there are not enough facilities to ensure reception, due to the numerus clausus among other things. (which characterizes a limitation in the exercise of the profession, Editor's note).“
The challenge is clear for the director of the CPAM: supporting new arrivals to make them want to stay. An objective which involves support so that general practitioners can quickly make themselves known to health partners or even the facilitation of administrative procedures. “For the moment, the installation of doctors remains below expectations”he indicated.
Thomas d'Abzac, deputy director of the Montreal polyclinic, gave a similar speech advocating increased attractiveness in the region. “For our part, the emphasis is placed on the development of versatile medicine,” he assured. “We have been offering complementary care for several months, for example the opening of our oncology department.”
Departures and installations of general practitioners in Aude
In recent years, the CPAM has recorded data on departures and installations in Aude. In 2023, 37 departures of general practitioners were recorded, while 22 installations including 16 in private practice and 6 in health centers were observed. These figures present an unfilled deficit of 15.
For the following year, over the period from January to November, 12 departures and 16 installations (liberal only) were noted, a slight improvement with a positive balance of 4. Over the two years, the balance is therefore stopped to – 11 general practitioners within the department at the moment. “An improvement which is not trivial” given the current situation, said Antoine Bourdon in an encouraging tone.
