In Guadeloupe, MP Max Mathiasin sentenced to twelve months in prison for breach of trust

He was absent during his deliberations. Guadeloupe MP Max Mathiasin was sentenced, Tuesday, November 19, to twelve months' suspended imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 euros by the Pointe-à-Pitre criminal court before which he appeared in particular for breach of trust.

The deputy (LIOT) of the third constituency of Guadeloupe, aged 68, was tried for “breach of trust, subtraction, misappropriation or destruction of property from a public deposit” while he was director of the Pointe-à-Pitre School Fund.

The facts concern the use of a fuel card and the sale of two vehicles by the Caisse des écoles, between August 12, 2014 and September 3, 2014, when Mr. Mathiasin headed the structure, before being elected deputy in 2017.

The two vehicles were in fact leased and did not belong to the Caisse des écoles, but to the company Bred Cofilease, whose constitution as a civil party was retained, as was that of the Caisse des écoles. Bred mentions a little more than 7,000 euros in damage. The fuel card would have been used for a little over 6,000 euros.

No penalty of ineligibility

Two other men, the former vice-president of the board of directors of the Caisse des écoles and a former municipal agent, were also tried in this case, but were acquitted on Tuesday by the court.

On October 22, the Pointe-à-Pitre public prosecutor's office requested eighteen months of suspended imprisonment, a fine of 10,000 euros and a sentence of ineligibility with provisional execution against Max Mathiasin, which was not accepted. the court.

The public prosecutor had requested twelve months of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 euros against the former vice-president of the board of directors of the Caisse des écoles, and six months of suspended imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 euros against the former municipal agent.
