Morbihan

The agents of the western roads department based in Vannes now have a new center that is more comfortable and more functional than the old, dilapidated premises they have occupied for around twenty years. This center was officially inaugurated this Tuesday afternoon by the prefect of Morbihan, Pascal Bolot in the company of Gérard Pierre, vice-president of the departmental council and Arnaud Gauthier, the deputy director of the DIRO against a backdrop of concern over a recurring phenomenon. DIRO agents, who we see daily at work on our roads, are faced with an increasingly worrying risk of accidents. As recently as November 11, an agent was deliberately hit by a motorist on the Rn 165 in Brech. A few days later, on November 16, a new collision occurred in Landévant without causing any injuries this time, but the list is growing: already 21 collisions recorded since the start of the year by the DIRO and 4 deaths for all France in 4 years…
Alarming figures and a reality which was mentioned this Tuesday afternoon during the inauguration with a call for awareness among motorists so that they respect the safety corridors and be vigilant when approaching areas in which the agents intervene. Also aware that they face heavy penalties. The motorist from Landévant, for example, was tried in immediate appearance and received a sentence of 18 months in prison and a cancellation of his driving license… Arnaud Gauthier explained that new precautionary measures are under study and testified to the stress that agents who go on mission experience every day.
While waiting for this surge of citizens, the thirty agents have at least a working environment better suited to maintaining around a hundred kilometers of national roads. The departmental services manage the departmental roads. The installations represent a cost of approximately 3.6 million euros. They were designed with efficiency and energy sobriety in mind. The buildings are heated by geothermal energy. It is the largest maintenance and intervention center (CEI) of the DIRO.
This Tuesday the inauguration which you can relive in our video took place under a deluge, but the agents are preparing to face the winter period with the risk of snow or ice. They have already stored 300 tonnes of salt, a minimum when we know that in the event of an alert, at each exit, the agents will spread 25 tonnes of salt to allow us to move around with a minimum of risk…
