Finistère firefighters flock their trucks to prevent the dangers of carbon monoxide

Carbon monoxide is very dangerous. This odorless gas is responsible for the death of around a hundred people each year in . The Finistère firefighters do prevention in their own way.

When it comes to heating, it’s best to be careful. If an installation is defective or simply poorly adjusted, it can release carbon monoxide. However, this is particularly harmful to human beings. Every year, there are around a hundred deaths for this reason alone in France.

Fortunately, no person died in 2023 in Finistère due to carbon monoxide. However, firefighters had to travel 70 times for interventions concerning him in 2023, compared to 50 the previous year, reports Le Télégramme, this Monday, November 18.

Questioned by the regional daily, Marguerite Lamour, president of the board of directors of Sdis 29, assures that this resurgence has alerted her services. And to explain: “We think it is linked to storm Ciaran which left many homes without power.” According to her, “people resorted to space heaters or old stoves to heat themselves.”

This is why Sdis 29 is mobilizing as the cold makes its comeback in France. Before turning on your heating system, it is better to be careful and check that it complies with standards. And to make as many people as possible aware, a major campaign was launched. Four all-purpose vehicles (UVVs) were flocked with prevention messages. They will circulate in , , Morlaix and Quimperlé.

The most common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are nausea, vomiting, dizziness and headache. If you have the slightest doubt, it is better to be cautious and contact 18 or 112.
