the youthful and feminine dynamic of Élodie Cairo

Élodie Cairo was elected this weekend president of the Guadeloupean Athletics League. An election which puts an end to the mandate of Ernest Daninthe, marked in particular by the successful organization of the Caribbean Games. Elected on a single list, “Altitude 2028 Together”, Élodie Cairo defends Guadeloupean athletics which will find its place on the regional, Caribbean, national and international scenes.

A new page has begun to be written at the Guadeloupean Athletics League. The “Altitude 2028 Ensemble” list, the only one in the running, was selected to form the league’s steering committee. At its head, a young woman very involved in the discipline, Élodie Cairo, elected president.

In the aftermath of the 2024 Games, Guadeloupean athletics is going through a decisive period. For several decades, tensions between the Guadeloupean Athletics League and the clubs have increased.

Very committed to the development of athletics, Élodie Cairo wishes to embody a new dynamic. Vice-President of the Gosier Athletic Club, has always been involved locally.

Our ambition is to launch a new dynamic for efficient and radiant athletics. We firmly believe in a future where Guadeloupean athletics will regain its place on the regional, Caribbean, national and international scenes.

This election ends the mandate of Ernest Daninthe. A marked mandate notably by the successful organization of the Caribbean Games having revealed the future Olympic champion Julien Alfred, that of the Guadeloupe-Guyana- Match won by the Host Country, that of almost all the competitions on the calendar (with in 2024 a championship on the road) and this despite the shortage of infrastructure, including during the Covid-19 period with its health restrictions.

The last four years have also seen Guadeloupe participate for the first time in the NACAC Open Championships in Freeport, in the Central American Games in San Salvador winning a medal, in the Fraternity Games of Martinique triumphing with many medals, at the French Mini Cross Cup in , at the NACAC U 13 and U 15 championships in Santo Domingo, among others.

The 2024 Olympic Games have relaunched the spotlight on Guadeloupean athletics with Marie-José Perec. This is what is at stake in the election of Élodie Cairo, determined to support Guadeloupean clubs towards excellence.
