It was with general relief, almost unanimously (164 yes, 0 no and 2 abstentions), that the parish of Moutier was designated, on November 19, a “cross-border parish” during the synod of the Reformed Churches of Berne. Jura-Solothurn (Refbejuso). A decision taken at the supracantonal level, which puts an end to years of worry and heartbreak.

“It was a matter of healing the wounds a little, at least not adding fuel to the fire,” recalls Tramelan pastor Philippe Kneubühler, member of the Refbejuso executive. In 2021, when the voters of Moutier voted to transfer their town to the canton of Jura, many Protestants found themselves in the losing camp: “The confessional attachment to Bern had been part of their identity for centuries.”
