For the past year, the Center for the Support of Perpetrators of Domestic Violence (CPCA) has supported 11 men, under judicial supervision or sentence modification. The center for the care of offenders, managed by the Salvation Army, has increased from an accommodation capacity of 4 to 8 places. On site, the perpetrators, placed by decision of the judicial court, are accompanied and receive psychological and social monitoring. They are placed there at several stages of the procedure: before the conviction initially, then afterwards for several months if necessary. This prevents the victim from having to flee the marital home. LThe author is also prohibited from appearing at the home or contacting the victim.
Still for perpetrators of domestic violence, two courses are now in place in the Territoire de Belfort. The first is aimed at “first-time offenders”, arrested for low-intensity acts and when there is no related addiction. “Often, violence arises in a context of poorly accepted separation and difficulty in communication. Violence is not necessarily the usual behavior,” explained the prosecutor during a previous interview. In this course, they cover the basics of non-violent communication. They also leave with addresses and relay people to help them cope with conflict situations. In the two months following the internship, the authors return to a representative of the prosecutor to establish an assessment.
For facts of higher intensity, another course exists, a responsibility course for the prevention and fight against violence within the couple, run by the prison integration and probation service. “The goal is to have an internship adapted to the severity and to be able to work on all types of situations,” she explained. Ten sessions were organized in 2024, almost monthly.
