It's the end of two months of caravan thefts in the town of Magny le Hongre (Seine-et-Marne). Since the end of September, residents of the town have regularly published photos of their vandalized cars on a Facebook group, “Living well in Magny”. Broken windows, torn dashboards and meters, stolen objects, the facts were recurring. “They were active on average once every two nights between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.,” a police source assures us.

Residents mobilized

The two individuals searched the vehicles and “went as far as break tiles if something seemed to have value,” explains the Lagny-sur-Marne police station. “It’s even surprising what people can leave in their car. We notably had kitchen utensils like robots and more classic things like sunglasses, bags…”

I had a window vandalized and various items stolen such as Gucci glasses, two pairs of Ray-Bans, two pairs of Samsung headphones, Gucci shoes, a Longchamp bag, etc. The market value is around 2000 euros.

Since the end of September, patrols were mobilized at night“and on Tuesday October 22, one of them managed to put one of the suspects to flight but failed to arrest him. » An event which had a stop to thefts before a resumption on November 3.

From then on, with the support of the municipal police and the town hall, notably the citizen participation systemthe clues followed one another. “Residents were widely mobilized, and investigators managed to gain access to numerous video surveillance images. »

Caught in the act

Finally, on the night of Wednesday November 13 to Thursday November 14, the thieves, aged 28 and 32, were spotted by a neighbor's camera. Warned, an on-site patrol was able to set up “a sort of trap. » “Police officers in plain clothes carried out surveillance in the night to try to catch individuals in the act. Once they were sure of their decision, they tightened their grip with the uniformed crews and arrested the suspects,” continues a police source.

In total, They were accused of 21 acts. Of foreign origins, one under OQTF and the other prohibited from returningthey confessed everything and were tried in immediate appearance with admission of guilt this Friday, November 15 by the Meaux court.
