Employment and disability: in Lozère a week dedicated to equality of professional careers

Jordan Duvivier, 32, is a worker with a disability. Currently, he works at Soudure Création, a steel company near Marvejols. Since April, Jordan has discovered work in an ordinary environment. “Every morning I am happy to get up, because I*I have a boss who recognizes my work and the quality of my commitment**. Despite my disability, I feel appreciated”*. This recognition through work is essential, even if many managers do not play the game, Jordan emphasizes: “I have accumulated a lot of experience in an ordinary environment, but they have often gone badly. We expect professional skills and here, the work is sometimes adapted based on all of that.”
His boss, Alexandre Trocellier, is a former educator at the Montrodat Motor Education Institute. When he created his ironworks company specializing in the manufacture of gates, guardrails and metal-framed terraces, he did not hesitate to hire people with disabilities. “Jordan has a handicap, of course, but that does not slow him down or hinder him, quite the contrary. We are satisfied with the work he does.”
If Alexandre is ready to employ people with disabilities, many companies still remain wary. In , the employment rate which should reach at least 6% to avoid penalties is only 3.5%. Furthermore, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is 12%compared to 7% for the rest of the population.
