Farmers mobilized in the Southern Alps this Monday, November 19. They lit a fire in Digne-les-Bains and Gap, a new symbolic action.
A fire ignited on the November 11 roundabout in Digne-les-Bains, this Monday, November 18. Another, in the evening, on the Europe roundabout in Gap. More than 120 people responded to the call from agricultural unions in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, more than 80 in the Hautes-Alpes. The problems are always the same: Mercosur agreement, predation, red tape. An overflow.
Traveling in South America, the President of the Republic tried to reassure them and said he was opposed to the text on Mercosur, assuring that “France will not sign” the treaty “as it stands”.
“We just want to defend our profession”
Farmers, tired of promises, once again took the time to gather on the evening of Monday, November 18.
“This mobilization is just as important as those we have been doing for nine months. We just want to defend our profession,” declared to BFM DICI, the general secretary of the Young Farmers of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and operator in Dauphin, Sasha Meyer.
He continues: “There are people who make laws that allow foreign products to enter our territory, which we do not have the right to produce. It's sad. In France, we wash whiter than white, we fall into an impasse Everyone is concerned, the breeder, the lavender, the wine grower, the farmer.
Aged 18, Elie is experiencing his first mobilization today and he still has hope. “We are going to fight for what we love to do and above all so that the young people still after us can also make a decent living from the profession. I am here because we have finished the work, but it is not because a day, we finish early, every day, we have fun Today, we take our free time to come and demonstrate, even though we don't have much of it, it has to lead to something. If it doesn't work out, we're ready to continue.” he warned.
A cry of anger shared by the operator of Dauphin, Sacha Meyer: “Up there, they can't hear us. When we shout and show that things are not going well, it is because things are really not going well We're not here to grill four sausages and get together, we know how to do it on the side.
Hautes-Alpes MP Valérie Rossi presents in Gap
On the Gap side, same story. A farmer in Rambaud, Christel Gagliardio also deplores the Mercosur text. “We are rekindling the fires of anger. We have been sold a dream compared to the promises of last year. We have forgotten that agriculture is the pillar of food and a primary necessity for the French” , she recalls.
For the socialist deputy for Hautes-Alpes, Valérie Rossi, who came this Monday to support them, her mission is to report these cries of anger to the Assembly.
“I completely agree with them on their positions on Mercosur. I work on the economic affairs committee at the National Assembly, agriculture is one of the themes on which we work. I have spoken numerous times with the minister, I will question him once again this Wednesday afternoon I am here to take the temperature with them, because the government has made some progress. I would like to understand why they continue to demonstrate (and why) they. are not yet satisfied”, she explains.
If farmers do not receive a response from the government, new mobilizations will take place and could be stronger than this Monday.
