On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, a man was sentenced to eight months in prison by the Bobigny court for hanging his dog from the gate of a high school in Drancy in Seine-Saint-Denis. The defendant, imprisoned in Romania in another case, was not present during the hearing.
A 20 minute agony
It was on August 18, 2023 that a macabre discovery was made. A three-year-old Malinois dog named Paco was found hanged at the gate of the Paul-Rolland high school, located on boulevard Henri-Barbusse. This sordid murder of the animal had deeply shocked and moved. According to Action Protection Animale, civil party during the trial, the dog had been in agony for around twenty minutes.
Imprisoned in Romania
Finally, the video surveillance had made it possible to identify the owner of the dog, and to arrest him five days later in Seine-et-Marne. It turned out that the latter was already wanted in Romania for acts of violence. Extradited, he was still incarcerated at the hearing held on Tuesday.
During the trial, the prosecution requested a one-year prison sentence for the defendant. Ultimately, he was convicted of cruelty to an animal.
