It is a special gesture of memory. While laying wreaths allows us to pay tribute to the soldiers who died for France, this resident of Bouy, near Châlons-en-Champagne, honors the memory of his maternal great-uncle: Raoul Lachaud. This was still the case on November 11, 2024.
Didier Chatelain, whose family is from Mourmelon-le-Grand, makes a point of celebrating Raoul Lachaud, killed at the age of 20 on August 5, 1918 at the Marquises farm between Suippes and Reims. And for this, he hangs his portrait in his window, at the edge of the main road used by many motorists. This was already the case in 2023 but this time, in this year 2024, he added a mannequin dressed in period clothing.
“Let’s thank them”
This resident of Bouy already paid tribute to his grandfathers who fought during the Second World War. He now never misses an opportunity to also celebrate the heroes of the First World War: “ We cannot forget their sacrifice for our freedom. Let's thank them “, he said.
