The church of her village threatened, this resident of Gironde launches a poignant appeal for help

Marie-Thérèse Tauzin could no longer “remain impassive in the face of a church which is deteriorating”, in this case the Saint-Martin church in Hure, in Gironde.

She brings together two friends, Marie Sarita and Françoise Remaut, who are also sensitive to the future of local heritage, and creates the association for the preservation of the Saint-Martin churchwith the support of the municipality.

The current state is worrying

The three new associates only observe the catastrophic state of the premises: some stained glass windows are damaged, the walls cracked, the paintings erased and all the furniture which is no longer maintained, in particular this monumental and beautiful pulpit.

Let's not talk about the bell tower! It must be said that apart from burial, baptism and wedding ceremonies, which are very rare, the church no longer opens its doors much.

Fortunately, Marie-Thérèse Tauzin, living a few meters from the place of worship, took responsibility for maintaining a bouquet of flowers there… And luckily, the electrified bells ringing every half hour remind us that the church has another mission in the village.

“Right now, we need figurines”

Among the ideas for activities that are mentioned to bring a little life into the church, there is first of all Christmas. “Let’s think right now about Christmas. We're going to redo the nursery. We have the essential pieces, but we lack figurines. We left a red box to raise funds. A lit candle is worth one euro! We also need hands to help us.”

Marie-Thérèse, Marie and Françoise are of course trying to bring money into the coffers of the association allocated to their church, but especially to talk about the Saint-Martin churchto attract attention so that in high places, people are interested in her. “Couthure and Lorette were very successful in obtaining funds,” says Marie.
