Pas-de-. A judge orders the lifting of isolation in Redoine Faïd prison

A sentence enforcement judge ordered this Monday the lifting of the solitary confinement in prison of the repeat robber Rédoine Faïd, who is serving three sentences including one of 14 years for his escape from Réau prison (Seine) which is serving three convictions including one of 14 years for his escape from Réau prison in 2018, AFP learned from a source close to the case.

“Treatment contrary to human dignity”

According to this source, this judge considers that certain conditions of Rédoine Faïd's detention are “contrary to the dignity of the human person” and gives the prison administration 30 days to put an end to them. The Béthune public prosecutor's office indicated that it had appealed this decision.

“This proves that what we have been saying for months is true and that Rédoine Faïd is undergoing treatment contrary to human dignity, even though her prison journey is heavy,” commented one of her lawyers, Me Benoît David.

The sentence enforcement judge considers that the inmate's placement in solitary confinement “for at least eleven years”, but also the fact that his visiting rooms have been equipped with a hygiaphone since October 2018 and that he cannot benefit from family life unity since 2018 are “contrary to the dignity of the human person”.

End of sentence in 2060

The robber was sentenced in October 2023 to 14 years of criminal imprisonment by the Assize Court, for his spectacular escape by helicopter from Réau prison in July 2018.

With this new conviction, against which he did not appeal, the end of the sentence of Rédoine Faïd, who was already serving convictions for a robbery in 2011 and a previous escape in 2013, should be postponed to 2060.
