Anna Wintour has something to worry about. Paris could soon have its version of the MET Gala. If we learned last July of the desire of the Museum of Decorative Arts to create its own charitable event aimed at supporting the collections of the institution, we did not yet have any further details regarding this great “feast of fashion and the French art of living”. We now know more: this Summer Ball will take place on July 6, the centenary of the first Decorative Arts exhibition, and will be entirely curated by the most French of Americans, director Sofia Coppola. Should we expect a Marie-Antoinette-style ball, in homage to the eponymous 2006 film by Francis Ford Coppola's daughter?

The future French fashion meeting

Already announced as an annual event, the event in any case promises to register “in the tradition of the great Parisian balls”a tradition which had however been lost over the years unlike in Vienna or New York. If the information is for the moment distilled in dribs and drabs, what we already know is that the evening will take place in two stages: a “small” exclusive party, bringing together a range of distinguished guests selected on the section, followed by an event open this time to talents from design and fashion schools.

A mystery that has everything to tickle the curiosity of fashion enthusiasts. Who will walk the red carpet in front of the Louvre? Who will dress who? Will there be a theme, like the MET Gala? If we already imagine Aya Nakamura and Lena Mahfouf, rare Frenchies to have been invited to the prestigious New York event, wearing their most beautiful evening dresses, do we dare to dream of international stars dressed by our greatest couturiers, 'Olivier Roustein to Jean-Paul Gaultier? Answer next summer.
