The communist senator, former deputy of Anne Hidalgo in charge of housing, could well see himself succeeding him in the next municipal elections. The councilor has not yet officially revealed his ambition.
“It’s happening to me.” Smiling, Ian Brossat plays the game of confidence. In an interview given to the show “Visiteur du Soir” on the YouTube channel Les Indecis last week, the communist senator from Paris lifts the veil on his “dream”, the one he sometimes thinks about while shaving: to become mayor of Paris .
“I wouldn’t say that it’s my ambition,” tempers the elected official, also a former deputy to Anne Hidalgo in charge of housing. “But, for me, the best mandate, having observed it closely, I would say that it is mayor of Paris.”
And the senator insisted: “I’m not saying that it’s my ambition, but in any case, it’s a magnificent mandate.”
The ball of suitors thickens
At present, no candidacy has officially emerged from the left. Everyone is playing for time while waiting to know Anne Hidalgo's intentions. Will the outgoing mayor wish to continue with a third term? Nothing is less certain.
In the meantime, the ball of suitors thickens with the declarations of Ian Brossat, without this being perceived as problematic by Anne Hidalgo's entourage. The communist is a “pillar of the majority”, insists a source to BFM Paris Île-de-France. “If the mayor doesn’t go, the battle is on.”
Questioned by Le Monde, Ian Brossat himself claims to be “part of the hypotheses” in the event of the non-candidacy of the current councilor. However, there is no question of forcing anyone's hand. The person concerned pleads for the organization of a primary to designate a possible successor.
Respondents plead for alternation
On the starting line, Ian Brossat could find another Parisian senator in the person of Rémi Féraud. This close friend of Anne Hidalgo has also already advanced his pawns towards a candidacy in the columns of Le Parisien. “I’m getting ready,” he admitted recently.
What also about Emmanuel Grégoire, former right-hand man of Anne Hidalgo who became a deputy for the capital this summer? Or environmentalists, who could propose their own candidate? With a year and a half to go, the options are numerous.
On the left, the challenge will in any case be to present a form of unity behind its standard-bearer. Because according to an Ipsos survey for Le Parisien, Gabriel Attal would be the suitable candidate in the eyes of Parisians. 42% of those questioned believe that he would make a good mayor. The former Prime Minister is narrowly ahead of Rachida Dati (39%), whose future could be obscured by a trial. Anne Hidalgo only comes in third position with 28%.
