Prosecutors are calling for the ineligibility of three-time presidential candidate Marine Le Pen in the so-called parliamentary assistants' trial. Resistance is organized in Gard.
The magistrates suspect 25 RN defendants of having set up, between 2004 and 2016, a “diversion system” public envelopes allocated by the EU to each deputy, in order to remunerate the employees of the National Rally. The European Parliament assessed the damage at 6.8 million euros, between 2004 and 2016. Last Wednesday, November 13, at the Paris court where the trial of the European parliamentary assistants case has been held for six weeks, the prosecution delivered its verdict. It requires a sentence of five years in prison, including two farms, but convertible, a fine of 300 000 euros et five years of ineligibility with provisional execution.
Damage estimated at 6.8 million euros
Other political figures are also targeted by heavy requisitions: 18 months in prison, including 12 suspended, 30,000 euros fine and three years of ineligibility with provisional execution against Louis Aliot, mayor of Perpignan ; 10 months suspended prison sentence, 20,000 euros fine and one year of ineligibility with provisional execution against Julien Odoul, now deputy for Yonne ; 18 months in prison, including 12 suspended, 30,000 euros fine, and three years of ineligibility with provisional execution against Nicholas Bay, MEP moved to Reconquête; three years in prison, including two years suspended, a fine of 200,000 euros and five years of ineligibility with provisional execution against Bruno Gollnisch, former MEP and former right-hand man of Jean-Marie Le Pen.
A poster campaign in Gard
“On Wednesday, prosecutors requested incredible pains in the so-called “parliamentary assistants” case against Marine Le Pen, without nuance or taking into account the realities of parliamentary life, reacts Yoann Gillet, RN deputy for the 1st constituency of Gard. As if the trial had never taken place, the prosecution pursued an implacable logic: all guilty. This is a direct blow to the freedom of action and speech of a political movement that is nevertheless legitimized by millions of French people. »
Yoann Gilet at work
Yoann Gillet, RN departmental delegate, denounces these attacks which according to him are only aimed at “discredit” Marine Le Pen and “weaken the National Rally, thus circumventing the democratic will of millions of French people. » And to continue: “These requisitions are a clear interference in the organization of parliamentary life, in defiance of the separation of powers. The prosecution seems to question perfectly legitimate political practices, as if a deputy did not have the right to ask his collaborators to work in coordination with the other deputies of his party“. Yoann Gillet also launched a major poster campaign throughout the Gard department to support Marine Le Pen. “All deputies, elected officials and activists of the Movement contribute to this action and are fully mobilizing to denounce what appears to be political justice”he concludes.
