: the Montmartre hill gets a makeover

One of the most visited districts of the capital is about to get a makeover. As part of the “Beautify your neighborhood” system launched in 2021 by the City of , the districts are undertaking work one by one in order to “transform the daily spaces of its residents”, explains the Paris town hall on its website. From this Monday and until August 31, 2025, several development works will be carried out on the Butte Montmartre (18th century).

“Vegetate, pedestrianize, create cycle paths, change street furniture…”, these are the objectives of the City, which wishes to condense the work over the shortest possible period to limit the inconvenience of local residents as much as possible. In four years, 42 neighborhoods have already benefited from the approach, including Montmartre chosen in 2021. Each year, several neighborhoods are elected and will be able to benefit from these developments in the future.

The system plans to permanently remove parking spaces, install new traffic signs, create ground markings and create parking spaces for bicycles. But to implement this project, the residents of the neighborhood will have to live for several months with barriers on the tracks. Some streets will be temporarily closed to traffic while new road markings are carried out, while access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.
