Côtes-d'Armor will have four representatives in the 8th round of the Coupe de France. Finistère, with only US Concarneau (N) still in the race while awaiting the entry of Stade Brestois (L1) in the 32nd, Morbihan, which is banking on FC Lorient (L2) and Saint-Co Locminé ( N2), and Ille-et-Vilaine, still there thanks to OC Cesson (N3) while waiting for Stade Rennais, have reason to be jealous. The Costa Ricans were able to take advantage of a relatively mild draw to still be in the race.
Guingamp, a quiet introduction
The professionals from Guingamp (Ligue 2) entered the fray on Saturday November 16 in Lisieux against the amateurs from Serquigny-Nassandres (Regional 2). Even if they were slow to open the score (44'), Sylvain Ripoll's men then rolled on (5-0). Amadou Sagna was able to score a double and Sabri Guendouz opened his goal counter among the pros, by converting a penalty he had obtained. Guingamp will travel to Dinan Léhon in the 8th round.
Dinan Léhon, accustomed to R2 and penalties
Dinan Léhon FC (National 2) is no stranger to great stories with the Coupe de France. The club left the competition in the round of 32 during the 2023-2024 season, beaten by Reims (3-0) in its Clos Gastel stadium. In December 2021, the Dinannais came close to the feat in the 32nd round against Stade Brestois (0-0, 12-13 on penalties).
This season, Stéphane Lamant's men were rather spared in the draw. They had perfectly negotiated their entry into the running in the 4th round, correcting Pacé (R2) 5-0. They almost got surprised in the 5th round at Retiers (R2), going to penalties (2-2, 3-2 tab). The 6th round was well negotiated in Quimper Ergué-Armel (R2), 3-0. And the 7th round also had a positive outcome, against a tougher opponent, Milizac (N3). Faty's partners also went to penalties (1-1, 3-2 tab).
The level will go up several notches in the 8th round since Dinan Léhon will host Guingamp (L2) in the 8th round on Saturday November 30.
Briochin Stadium, without forcing
With Lannion FC (N3) attacking the competition in the 5th round, Stade Briochin (National 2) was not surprised in this Costa Rican derby (2-0). Uzel-Merléac (R3) in the 6th round (4-0) and Paimpol (R2) in the 7th (3-0) did not have the weapons to upset Guillaume Allanou's players. Like Dinan Léhon, Stade Briochin will face a tougher opponent in the 8th round. Saint-Malo (N2), leader of Pool B of N2, will travel to the Fred-Aubert stadium on Saturday November 30.
Saint-Brieuc Ginglin, the lovely surprise
Three clubs from Saint-Brieuc were in the 7th round, which was already a great thing. There will be two in the 8th round because Saint-Brieuc Ginglin (Regional 1) overthrew Alençon (2-0), resident of National 3 (bottom of the table). A historic performance for the Breton Tom Thumb, who plays the leading roles in Pool A of R1. This is the second time since he entered the running at 3e turn that Ginglin defeats a hierarchically superior opponent. 3e round: Illifaut (D1) 6-2 away; 4th round: Le Rheu (R2) 2-0; 5th round: Beauregard (R1) 3-1 away; 6th round: DC Carhaix (R3) 3-0 away. In the 8th round, Ginglin will host Rouen who play in National.
In the round of 32 of the Coupe de France, there will therefore be between one and three representatives from Côtes-d'Armor. Bets are on.
