Agefiph is mobilizing for the 28th European week for the employment of people with disabilities. In Guyana, a slight improvement is emerging with a drop in the unemployment rate of disabled people, and an employment rate of 2.05% in the private sector and 4.41% in public services.
The 28e European Week for the Employment of People with Disabilities (SEEPH) will take place from Monday 18 to Sunday 24 November.
In Guyana, Agefiph (Association for managing the fund for the professional integration of people with disabilities) is mobilizing for an edition dedicated to equal opportunities in the professional careers of people with disabilities. Agefiph recalls that in 2024, disability remains the main source of discrimination in France.
For the occasion, a survey was published with Ifop on equal opportunities in employment. This survey focuses on the obstacles encountered by disabled people throughout their professional career.
Even if the unemployment rate of people with disabilities has decreased considerably over the last four years (from 18 to 12%), it remains higher than that of the population as a whole.
The majority of people with disabilities surveyed (63%) have already had to change jobs or positions because of their disability. 62% of people with disabilities believe it is difficult to find a job, almost twice as much as the national average. Finally, three out of four disabled people even believe that their disability has hindered their professional development.
Despite everything, a slow improvement is emerging. Hiring of disabled people, which represents 2.3% of all hiring, is increasing in Guyana: 125 disabled job seekers found employment in the first half of 2024.
Disabled people access training in proportions similar to the general public: 170 disabled job seekers entered training in 2023, or 2.9% of the total.
In addition to this Ifop survey, Agefiph Antilles-Guyane also takes advantage of the SEEPH to publish the latest employment and disability figures. The trend is towards improvement in Guyana, although it remains timid, with an overall employment rate of people with disabilities of 2.05% in the private sector and 4.41% in the various public functions.
At the end of 2024, 56 beneficiaries will be kept in employment in Guyana thanks to the local actions of Cap Emploi, Agefiph and FIPHFP, an increase of 30% compared to last year. Awareness-raising actions aimed at employers in the Antilles and Guyana have been initiated. To date, 68 of them have participated.
As part of this SEEPH, the Antilles-Guyana delegation of Agefiph and its partners are offering a series of events to promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities. More than three million people will be recognized as disabled in France in 2023.
