It was around 4:30 p.m. when shots rang out on Place d'Armes, in the center of Rumilly, a peaceful town of 16,000 inhabitants located near Annecy. According to initial information, one or more shooters opened fire, killing Nabil, 17, with a bullet to the head. Next to him, Zyed, 18, was seriously injured in the chest. In a state of absolute emergency, he was airlifted to the Annecy-Genevois Hospital Center. His vital prognosis is in jeopardy.
The exact circumstances remain unclear, but several witnesses speak of a violent altercation involving at least five people. The possibility of a confrontation between two groups is favored: on the one hand, young people from the Teppes district in Annecy; on the other, the two victims from Rumilly. A first brawl broke out the day before, according to information reported by The Dauphiné Libéré.
Some witnesses also speak of two suspects on motorcycles. The passenger allegedly shot the two young men near a restaurant before the two individuals fled.
A shock for residents and an ongoing investigation
Around fifty gendarmes cordoned off the crime scene to carry out surveys and collect testimonies. The Chambéry research brigade was seized of the investigation. A psychological unit was also set up to support witnesses, marked by the violence of the murder.
Christian Dulac, mayor of Rumilly, said he was deeply shocked: “This is happening in Rumilly, you realize! This Sunday, there were lots of families with children on the square. A little one could also have caught a stray bullet. It scares me. » While the exact motives for the attack remain to be determined, local authorities and investigators are working to shed light on this homicide.
