Legislative elections: Pastef in the lead, according to partial and provisional results

Pastef’s list, led by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, obtained a large majority of seats in the National Assembly, according to partial and provisional results published by polling stations in Senegal and abroad.

In most of the results of this Sunday’s early legislative elections, the head of government’s party is often followed by the Sàmm Sa Kàddu and Takku Wallu Senegal coalitions, respectively led by the mayor of Dakar, Barthélémy Dias, and the ex-president of the Republic, Macky Sall. The Jàmm Ak Njariñ list of former Prime Minister Amadou Ba also plays supporting roles alongside those of MM. Dias and Sall.

Opposition leaders recognized Pastef’s victory and congratulated his leader and his candidates. ”I warmly congratulate Pastef on this victory which reflects the will of the people. This moment, beyond divisions, is a victory for our democracy, for Senegal,” wrote Amadou Ba on his Facebook page. ”Beyond electoral competitions, it is Senegal which must always win.

It is Senegal which has won again,” added the former Prime Minister. Barthélémy Dias also recognized the victory of Ousmane Sonko’s party. ”In my capacity as head of the list of the Sàmm Sa Kàddu coalition, I would like to warmly congratulate the winner of the elections, Pastef, for his victory,” Mr. Dias reacted on his Facebook page. ”I urge the presidential camp to now focus on meeting the needs of the Senegalese,” wrote opponent Bougane Guèye Dany, one of the mayor of Dakar’s running mate. ”The Senegalese voted and confirmed their choice of March 24 [l’élection de Bassirou Diomaye Faye, l’un des leaders de Pastef]. I thank my comrades from Sàmm Sa Kàddu for the commitment and determination shown during the campaign.

We draw all the consequences and reiterate our anchoring in the opposition,” he added. Some 7,300,000 Senegalese were called to the polls this Sunday to elect 165 deputies, including 15 responsible for representing the country’s citizens living abroad.

Forty-one lists of parties or coalitions of parties took part in this early legislative vote. One hundred and twelve seats are filled by majority list voting. The list that comes first in each of the country’s 46 departments obtains all the seats at stake, making a total of 112 seats distributed according to the demographics and economic weight of each electoral district. Fifty-three seats are filled by proportional representation. With APS
