It is at Chantillytourist town in the south of the Oise, where the first Japanese garden from France! Barely a few steps from the castle, the first Japanese space in France was born in 2023 in the wonderful setting of Princes' vegetable gardena magnificent 3-hectare garden saved by Yves Bienaimer, a Cantilien, in 1998.
A unique place, inaugurated last year by the Japanese ambassador to France, Makita Shimokawa, where the 20,000 annual visitors can discover different varieties of fruits, vegetables and plants from Japan, planted in reserved squares on more than a third of the park.
Plants, trees and vegetables typical of Japan
Next to 450 species of Japanese perennials were also planted there, such as miscanthus (elephant grass), fragrant hostas, fatsias japonica and Japanese holly.
Specific trees and shrubs, such as Japanese maples, hydrangeas, styrax or rugosa roses, were already present on the site when this thematic garden was created, installed around a pond over which a traditional japanese bridge.
Bamboo maze and Zen garden
20 symbolic plants, 16 fruit trees, 50 typical vegetables from the land of the Rising Sun… Shaped by Teddy Chesnau, the head gardener, this vegetable garden has become the most diverse in France in terms of Japanese plant and tree species found in one place.
A relaxing space, in which walkers can discover a bamboo labyrinth, slate “Japanese steps” on the edge of a waterfall or even a Zen garden.
But also come across Nagasaki chickens (loved by the Japanese aristocracy), Japanese rabbits and Koi carp in the pond.
In addition to its botanical wealth, and for a year its Japanese horticulture, the Potager des Princes wants to be a relaxing place for familieswhere parents and children can enjoy the presence of animals in semi-freedom and the organization of shows at the Théâtre de la Faisanderie.

From the end of March to the beginning of November, open every day from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.,
Prices excluding events: €9.50 for an adult, €8.50 for a child (free up to 2 years old),
Open from December 21, 2024 to January 4, 2025 for Christmas (single price: €10, free for children under 2 years old).
