Sunday, November 10, the Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church welcomed the organist Michael Matthes, who magnificently brought to life the little jewel of the building, the Cavaillé-Coll, classified as a historic monument.
This organist, head of the organ of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois, in Paris, is far from being unknown to the faithful spectators of the concerts of the association of Friends of the Châteauvillain organs. This is the fifth time that he has performed at the console of this organ which still appeals as much as ever. Like this mother-daughter pair who came to attend the concert and who wanted to know more about this famous instrument. They thus had the privilege of going up to the podium and discovering more closely these organs that Michael Matthes was preparing to bring to life. via a program of a dozen pieces.
The meeting with the musician thus allowed these spectators to better understand the functioning of this instrument and all its complexity of playing which gives this music its singularity. Enough to impress the 5 year old girl; and what will undoubtedly revive the memories of the musician who fell under the spell of the sounds of the organ at this age, promising himself then to become an organist.
The dream, through hard work and pugnacity, became reality. Author of numerous discographic recordings, Michael Matthes regularly gives master classes on the 20the century, in France and abroad. Also a professor at the Troyes Conservatory, he is considered today as one of the most brilliant representatives of the tradition of the great French organ school of the 20th century.e century.
For this concert, the instrumentalist performed a dozen pieces. The program was entirely produced without a score and with great virtuosity. The audience was enchanted
At the end of the concert, Michael Matthes was warmly applauded and invited to come down and join the audience to receive a small gift from the hands of the young Imaya on behalf of the association.
The next concert organized by the Friends of the Organs will be held on Saturday January 11, 2025, at 4 p.m.
