Two men die in the accident of their Alpine at the Alès Mechanical Center

The Renault Alpine hit the barriers at high speed. A major emergency device deployed on site.

It was around 3:30 p.m. this Sunday, November 17, when the firefighters, gendarmes and emergency services were dispatched to the Alès en Cévennes mechanical center following an accident that occurred on the circuit track.

During a day of driving, a Renault Alpine would have gone “straight” for a reason that is still unknown and that the investigation will have to determine. The accident occurred at the end of a straight line before entering a right-hand curve. According to witnesses, the vehicle, which was traveling at high speed, did not deviate from its straight trajectory.

An open investigation

Significant emergency resources were deployed, including a helicopter which landed on the runway. The driver, aged 74, died. The passenger, in cardiorespiratory arrest, had to be extricated from the passenger compartment.

Despite the care provided by the medical team, the man also died as confirmed by Abdelkrim Grini, the public prosecutor of Alès. “I have opened an investigation to investigate the causes of death. An autopsy will be carried out as well as toxicological analyses. The vehicle will be assessed and we will observe the rental conditions of the circuit.”

The gendarmes of the Alès company are responsible for the investigation.
