French Cup. La Maladrerie sees its dream disappear, SM will play Bolbec in the 8th round

La Maladrerie dreamed of it, she couldn't do it. Deprived of five starters, largely rejuvenated at kick-off, far too timid in the first period, Vincent Laigneau's team saw a large part of its hopes of facing SM in the next round disappear during the forty- first five minutes against Bolbec, another resident of Regional 1.

She was punished at the start of the match then in added time of the first act, at two key moments of a match. Each time on a set piece, the Leroux cousins, Cédric (0-1, 3') then Mathieu (0-2, 45'+ 3) used their large size to win with a header. “The first goal hurts us from the outset, says Vincent Laigneau, the coach of La Maladrerie. We didn't have an extraordinary first half, there wasn't the excitement and the ingredients of a Coupe de match, the determination in the races and the duels. They were stronger than us in these areas. The second half was a little more coherent, more lively, but it was a little too late. We reduced the score, but Bolbec today deserves its qualification for 8e round. La Mos missed his first period and it hurt him. »

Under the eyes of the mayor of Caen Aristide Olivier, Malherbistes Alexandre Mendy and Lorenzo Rajot who came to see their next opponent, there were several generations of La Maladrerie gathered there, from the young people of the club to the veterans, all came to lend a hand as volunteers, after having been present for some on the ground twenty-three years ago, during the only 8e Coupe de France round in the club's history against Issy-les-Moulineaux.

La Mos was not able to experience the same fate in 2024, but it was able to show a much better face afterwards, with a central hinge which knew how to set an example, with an exemplary Enzo Larchevêque and an impactful Nathan Laigneau, author of the reduction in the score on a deflection of the right foot, upon receiving a free kick (1-2, 73'). This raised doubts about a Bolbec team which had withdrawn into itself before that. La Mos had had a few hot situations before, through Ghertil (47') and Larchevêque (57'), also had the equalizing ball, but Jaunet's recovery in the open surface flew away (88').

Apart from the two goals conceded, she only really shook with this strike on Demba's bar (79'). But Bolbec’s maturity undoubtedly made part of the difference. It allows the Seinomarine club to challenge SM Caen (Ligue 2) in the 8th round, on Saturday October 30. It will not be on his home ground, not up to standard for such a meeting, and this match could well take place at the Océane stadium in .
