An intrusion in the middle of the night, beatings, threats and meager loot. This Friday, November 15, 2024, four men were convicted by the Paris Assize Court in the case of homejacking committed at an art collector's home. The sentences handed down are heavy : 12 years in prison for the first robber, 20 years for the second who is on the run, five years, three of which are suspended for the receiver, and finally five years, four of which are suspended for the entrepreneur who allegedly instigated the home-jacking.

NearParis newsMe Pierre-Philippe Boutron-Marmion, the victim’s lawyer, welcomed “ convictions commensurate with the seriousness of the facts and the suffering endured by my clients.”

Theft, violence and kidnapping

The events took place on January 27, 2020 in the 3rd arrondissement of the capital. Two hooded men broke into the house of Dominique Bourlaud, collector known for having exhibited old bank notes signed by big names in street art. The victim and his wife were threatened and locked in their bathroom. The criminals left with an estimated loot several tens of thousands of euros.

Very quickly, investigations made it possible to identify three people with a link to the case. Among them, a contractor who worked for the victim. The latter had given a duplicate of the keys to Dominique Bourlaud's apartment as well as the access codes to the building.

An arrest warrant issued

The contractor had denied having organized the theft, despite non-payments on the part of the victim during work carried out a few years previously. He was still sentenced to five years in prison, four of which were suspended.

The second accused had served as a receiver, recovering the loot stolen from the collector. A sentence of five years, three of which were suspended, was handed down against him. The third would have participated in the home-jacking and received 12 years in prison. His partner, still on the run, received the heaviest sentence with 20 years in prison. An arrest warrant was issued against him.
