Legislative elections in Senegal: Ousmane Sonko calls for peaceful voting | APAnews

The Senegalese Prime Minister and head of Pastef’s national list, Ousmane Sonko, invited the Senegalese to vote calmly for the legislative elections this Sunday, November 17, 2024.

« We would be the losers if the elections did not take place peacefully. In all cases, we have always called for peaceful voting. Democracy is expressed in peace and stability. And in a democracy, there is no place for violence. Everyone comes to set their program before and during the campaign. And on election day, citizens choose freely. This is democracy and in this scheme, there is no place for violence “, Ousmane Sonko told the press, leaving his polling station at the Néma school in Ziguinchor (south).

The head of the national list of Pastef underlined: “The observation is that, usually, the participation rate is much lower for legislative elections than for presidential elections. These elections are just as important as the March 24 vote. This is why we opted to come very early ».

This Sunday, more than 7.3 million voters will have to decide between 41 lists vying for 165 seats in the National Assembly.
