Météo-France announced it. From Monday, November 18, a change in the weather is looming. A rainy disturbance will arrive via the Channel coast in a west then northwest flow. We should expect a return of snow in the mountains at low altitude and a much windier atmosphere. The first serious flakes of winter are emerging on Météo-France's 7-day forecast map in Rousses (Jura) in particular, and in Doubs sur Mouthe, Pontarlier, and possibly Besançon.
According to Météo Franc-Comtoise forecasts established by young forecaster Ilyes Ghouil, snow should appear on Tuesday, November 19 in the evening following a severe cold. Snow could fall at 900 then 500 m altitude for a few hours. “Between 1 and 5 cm from 800 meters while it could fall 10 to 15 cm above 1100 meters!” specifies Météo Franc-Comtoise with forecasts which of course still need to be refined.
Wednesday November 20, the sky will be windy. Sleet could occur from 400 meters above sea level. An additional 1 to 5 centimeters may fall throughout the day above 900 meters above sea level, indicates Météo-Franc-Comtoise.
This is the trend that is emerging for Thursday evening. If it is confirmed, we could wake up on Friday November 22 between “1 to 5 cm on the ground below 400 meters of altitude, 4 to 8 cm on the first heights or even 7 to 15 cm above 800 meters which would bring the total accumulation on the ground to 15-30cm above 1100 meters” This time Ilyes Ghouil.

Don't forget to wear approved snow or four-season tires if you haven't already done so for your safety and that of other road users. In 34 departments of France, the Mountain law requires that motorists driving in mountain areas be equipped with suitable tires.
And the obligations tightened on November 1, 2024 on tire models. Winter tires, within the meaning of the Mountain Law decree, are tires falling under the designation “3PMSF” (3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake). They can be identified on the sidewall of the tire thanks to the “Alpine symbol”, illustrated by a mountain with three peaks containing a snowflake.

The purchase and use of “snow tires” other than those marked 3PMSF will remain possible, but users will also have to have chains to travel from November 1 to March 31 in the areas concerned, indicates the Road Safety website.
