A security perimeter was established on Saturday afternoon at the Saint-Lazare station in Paris, after a man dumped a bottle of chemical on the floor of the McDonald's fast food in the Saint-Lazare station, franceinfo learned on Sunday, November 17 from police source. 32 people were taken ill, including 10 in relative emergency, without the station being evacuated. A suspect was then arrested later in the afternoon on the platforms of Caen station (Calvados).
According to the first elements of the investigation, from a source close to the case at franceinfo, shortly before 3 p.m., a man spilled an orange liquid on the floor of the McDonald's before leaving quietly towards the station platforms. The man was dressed in a blue down jacket, according to a witness. A report confirmed by the use of video surveillance cameras. The images show this man with a suitcase heading towards the platforms before taking a train to Caen.
Once notified, the firefighters implemented an NRBC protocol which consists of securing victims exposed to nuclear, radiological, biochemical or chemical risks. Clients who felt unwell were not hospitalized. Ten police officers who intervened complained of sore throats after inhaling the product during their intervention, but were not hospitalized either. According to the first elements of the investigation, the man dumped the contents of a pepper bomb on the ground.
In the meantime, the police officers responding to the Saint-Lazare station have warned their colleagues in Caen. They arrested a man matching the description of the suspect.
