A study published by INSEE Hauts-de-France this week has just revealed where were the 125,200 second homes in the region. A large number of them are located in Pas-de-Calais. We tell you more.
Four out of five homes are second homes in Le Touquet
Second homes represent 4.1% of housing in Hauts-de-France, half as much as in mainland France. “They are distinguished by a larger proportion of houses than at the national level. Older and wealthier than the regional average, their occupants mainly reside in the region,” indicates INSEE in its study.
In Pas-de-Calais, the rate is even lower and reaches 3.2%. The majority of second homes in the department are concentrated on the coast. Two out of five second homes are located there. For example, in Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, the 10,000 second homes represent 4 out of 5 housing units.
But it is not only in Le Touquet that the rate of second homes exceeds 50% in Pas-de-Calais. This is also the case in Berck, Neufchâtel-Hardelot or Cucq.
In total, 42% of second homes are concentrated on the coast, they are located in a coastal inter-community. The region's second homes are smaller than the main residences, one in 2 is less than 60 m2.
The profile of the occupants is older, 57% of the tax advisors of the occupying household are at least 60 years old. They are also better off, 1 in 4 occupant households is in the 10% with the highest income in the region. And they often live in the region, 3 out of 4 households have their main residence in the region.
