The project has been maturing for two years and is reaching its final stage at Val-au-Perche (Orne): a meeting to launch the work must take place in November 2024. Then the cameras should be installed during the first half of 2025.

For a total cost of 300 000 euros.

The municipality is equipped with 22 cameras

In total, 22 video protection cameras are about to be installed in the heart of this new commune of Perche, member of the Community of Communes of Collines du Perche Normand.

“This is a project within our mandate,” explains Sébastien Thirouardthe mayor of Val-au-Perche. “A commitment made as part of our municipal campaign program. »

From idea to practice, there is only one step. Motivated by the wish to reassure the population.

“It is above all a preventive action,” insists the mayor.

Video protection is now accepted in the landscape and understood as an asset for law enforcement.

After a theft, a deterioration in the town, the residents ask us when the cameras will arrive.

Sébastien Thirouard, the mayor of Val-au-Perche.

Burglaries, vandalism…

Recently, the premises of the shared garden were broken into and a theft noted… “We are not spared from vandalism”, continues the elected official who lists the eight burglaries in residential houses that have occurred since August, or more break-ins into businesses…

Recruitment of municipal police officer postponed

The recruitment of a municipal police officer was also on the agenda. “This is part of the commitments made with the signing of the Territorial Revitalization Operation,” explains Sébastien Thirouard, the mayor of Val-au-Perche. “But we decided to suspend recruitment. »
A decision taken in a tense economic context, recognizes the elected official. “The financial situation is complicated, unforeseen events remain for 2025 in terms of allocations and revenue. »
The municipality therefore took the decision to suspend recruitment, “even if we remain convinced of the interest of such a position”.

The elected officials therefore said yes to video protection. “This installation is part of the signing of the Territorial Revitalization Operation (ORT) with an amendment dedicated to security. »

The gendarmerie has made commitments, for its part, such as providing on-call duty.

Reassure the population

These 22 cameras will be able to film night and day.

The targeted sites are as follows: four school sites of Val-au-Perche, the frequented places what are the places of the Town Hall and Teilleuls as well as the activity areas “who have suffered serial thefts”.

These spaces were selected in consultation with elected officials and law enforcement.

The overall cost of this operation amounts to 300 000 eurosa sum financed at 50% by state subsidies and 50% by the community's own funds.

“A work launch meeting is planned for November. A preparation phase with Enedis is necessary and the deployment of the cameras is planned for the first half of 2025.”

To carry out this project, elected officials from Percheval met with their counterparts from Bretoncelles, Sées and La Ferté-Bernard.

“It was important to learn about their experience, this also allows us to avoid certain pitfalls. »

The mayor hopes so with conviction: these cameras should reassure the population. And help law enforcement find people responsible for crimes such as “deterioration of street furniture or private cars”.
