According to northern farmers, this agreement seriously threatens European sustainable agriculture by promoting the massive importation of agricultural products that do not meet European standards.

Among these products, the agreement provides for the import of 99,000 tonnes of beef, 180,000 tonnes of poultry meat, 3.4 million tonnes of corn, as well as 8.2 million hectoliters of biofuels.

These goods, resulting from agricultural methods banned in Europe, pose traceability problems, use prohibited phytosanitary substances and participate in the massive deforestation.

For the agricultural unions of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, it is inconceivable that products that do not meet European requirements in terms of ecology, animal welfare and food safety will compete with local production.

Theydemand an end to negotiations and call on the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister to protect the interests of farmers and consumers.

Both organizations reaffirm their determination to defend sustainable agriculture and French food sovereignty.
