REPORTING. In Seine-Saint-Denis, a fashion magazine raises awareness of domestic violence

The magazine presents all the attributes of the feminine: the cover, the photos, the layout… But its title calls out. Violence, the mag is in reality a municipal newspaper which diverts the codes of fashion magazines, in order to fight against violence against women. The idea is a bit confusing. However, the municipality of Montfermeil (Seine-Saint-Denis) has been making it a reality for four years.

Its innovative character was rewarded by the Territoria prize in the communication theme on November 7, 2023. The initiative was also spotted by the French Federation of Things That Work, including West France is the partner.

This recognition gives a nice spotlight to Montfermeil, a town of around 30,000 inhabitants located to the east of Paris, and with a familiar name. In the 19th century^e century, the city is still only a village frequented by Victor Hugo. In Les MiserablesCosette's torturers run an inn there. Two centuries later, it was in Montfermeil that the riots of 2005 began, in Les Bosquets, in the upper part of the city made up of blocks of buildings built in the 1960s, contrasting with the lower part, which is very residential.
