The LR mayor of Décines-Charpieu denounced on Friday November 15 the building permit filed by the metropolis of , to build a center for unaccompanied minors in the town. The metropolis defends itself.

An installation that is not to the taste of the mayor. The metropolis of Lyon has just submitted a building permit for a Shelter and Assessment Center (CMAE) for unaccompanied minors (UMA) in Décines-Charpieu. It would be installed in the Prainet district, according to the town hall.

In a press release, Mayor LR Laurence Fautra denounces a decision taken “without prior consultation”.

A choice made “unilaterally” according to the town hall

Laurence Fautra indicates that she wrote to the Prefer du Rhône to “express her fears regarding the location of this type of structure in a sector of the municipality already saturated in terms of population flow and place of drug trafficking”.

“The future location decided unilaterally by the executive of the metropolis of Lyon already brings together a huge number of populations,” indicates the mayor of Décines-Charpieu, in particular because of the presence of a high school, a gymnasium, etc.

The mayor claims to be opposed to this establishment in “a sector which, due to its geolocation, already experiences numerous drug trafficking and acts of delinquency”.

She asks the metropolis to withdraw this project which has not been approved by the metropolitan council and which, once again, has not been the subject of any consultation or impact studies.

A “political posture”, denounces the metropolis

For its part, the metropolis of Lyon assures that “for 3 years, this project has been the subject of numerous exchanges between the metropolis of Lyon and the town hall of Décines-Charpieu, which has been largely associated with the various stages of progress of the file ” and that a “presentation of the plans was also organized with the mayor of Décines-Charpieu before the filing of the building permit”.

“The reaction displayed by the mayor of Décines-Charpieu therefore seems to mask a political posture, shared by other members of her party in the region,” denounces the metropolis.

The latter ends by specifying that the project “is part of a compulsory competence of the metropolis of Lyon, in terms of child protection”.

The metropolis has also chosen to install a center for 70 unaccompanied migrant minors in Écully until 2026, a choice denounced by the mayor LR Sébastien Michel and the head of the LR deputies Laurent Wauquiez.
