38 years after its launch in Cherbourg (Manche), Emerald is backFriday November 15, 2024, at the tip of Cotentin.

Built by the Cherbourg shipyard, the Rubis-class nuclear attack submarine was part of the French submarine fleet for 37 years.

He has traveled all the seas of the globe. That's nearly 19 years under the surface of the seas, and more than a hundred stopovers in and around the globe. He has also traveled around the world around sixty times, covering more than 2.4 million kilometers.

The fourth Rubis-class SNA to be decommissioned

Departing from (), its home port, on October 8, 2024, the building returns, after a recent stopover in (Finistère), to Cherbourg to be disarmed and then deconstructed.

It is the fourth Rubis-class SNA to be decommissionedafter the Saphir in 2019, the Rubis in 2022 and the Casabianca in 2023, all three currently in the Cotentin.

Ruby-type SNAs must all be replaced by new generation SNAs, Suffren class, by 2030.

Three are currently left the construction site of Naval Group in Cherbourg: the Suffren, the Duguay-Trouin and the Tourville.
