From the start of the conflict, United for Ukraine 56 provided aid to civilian victims of the war in Ukraine. “Until this war is over, we will be mobilized to help the Ukrainians. We have sent around twenty convoys, and we are preparing the next one,” underlines Emmanuelle Trocadéro, the dynamic person responsible for the Lorient association. “Every Thursday afternoon, we welcome donations in our new premises in Kerlétu. The needs are multiple: generators, candles, duvets, duvets, blankets, hygiene and care products, and long-life dry food products.” The association has already sent an ambulance to Ukraine and soon another will follow. “An ambulance on site saves seven lives per day,” insists Emmanuelle. Participation in the Christmas markets of Languidic and Ploemeur will allow the exhibition of objects and embroidery made by the Ukrainian community of Lorient.
A machine-gunned ambulance on display in December
Currently, a machine-gunned ambulance is on display in European countries, first in Luxembourg, soon in France and finally in Spain. “She will be in Lorient on December 14 and 15, 2024 to raise public awareness of the conflict, the war is underway, we want to convey an urgent message of peace.” Activities are planned for these two days with music, readings and testimonies from Ukrainians, members of the association and political refugees. The exhibition location will be announced soon. The logistics of ambulance travel is managed by the UUK (Union of Ukrainians of France) which brings together departmental associations. The association is currently occupying the former premises of the technical services of Lorient in Kerlétu for six months and is already looking for new premises.
