Sentenced to ten years in prison after the death of her baby, drowned in the toilet at birth

It is a terrible case of infanticide which occupied the Deux-Sèvres Assize Court from Tuesday to Thursday. The accused, a 47-year-old woman already the mother of two grown children, was sentenced to ten years in prison after the death, on November 25, 2020, of her newborn, reports Ouest-France. The attorney general had requested a sentence of fifteen years of criminal imprisonment. The accused gave birth at home in her toilet and did not come to the aid of the infant who drowned in time, even though she defended herself in the bar of having wanted her child to die.

In great social distress

The forty-year-old, suffering from great social distress and dependent on alcohol, would have faced an unwanted pregnancy. After giving birth, she did not call the firefighters but her father and asked one of her sons present not to go to the toilet, points out the civil party.

The defense argues in its pleading that the accused thought she was going to miscarry again, like in 2019. Unemployed and with a companion in the background, she found herself very alone in the face of this pregnancy.

The forty-year-old, whose record is clean, has ten days to appeal her ten-year prison sentence.
