This Manche company is redoing the gates of Notre-Dame de cathedral

The reopening of Notre-Dame de Cathedral will take place December 7 and 8, 2024 at the end of a reconstruction site of 5 years, launched the day after the fire which ravaged the building in April 2019.

The Picard-Duboscq ironworks in Gouville-sur-Mer (Manche) is engaged in the latest works which mark the end of the revival of the monument. She is in charge of the renovation of the grilles located on the western facade of the cathedral and his northern and southern approaches who participate in organizing a tour and channel the flow of visitors.

We recovered this €700,000 project in July with an ultra-tight schedule. It must be completed by December 6. It was added to an already full order book.

Lfamily business of 45 people went out of her way to take on this challenge et mobilized its teams. “We started the restoration during the summer vacation et asked our employees of work staggered hours. A project like this cannot be refused. This is a plus for the image of the company and our employees. »

The Gouville ironworks, specialized in heritageenjoysa good reputation. The projects she carried out at the Louvre, at the Palace of , on Haussmannian buildings from the capital… participated to his fame et to the recognition of its know-how.

More than 100 m of gates and gates

The Notre-Dame project involves the restoration of more than 100 m of 2.20 m high gates with around fifteen portals. “It includes a part of restoration grills and a part of identical creation. »

The filing began last summer for bring the parts back to the workshop in Gouville-sur-Mer. Twenty-one employees, including five apprentices ironwork, were mobilized, “at the height of activity”on the work.

A full order book

To re-route the elements to Paris, the company used “three semi-trailers”.

“The gates are installed by twelve of our companions. » The last convoy will take place next week. Everything will be ready for reopening ceremony on December 7.

The security commission passes on November 25. The schedule is very, very short.

Over the past two years, the Gouvilla-based company has recruited and carried out emblematic projects such as the main gate of the Palace of Versailles. She is currently working on the renovation of the honor grid of the prefectureknown as Little Versailles, and the interior gates of Coutances Cathedral.

Activity is in full swing with a full order book for the Next 18 months by picking up public and private markets. The ironworks have “around sixty projects in progress”.

Next year, Thierry Duboscq and his wife will leave the company to a well-deserved retirement. The relieving is ensured by their children who have been in the company for 20 years for David as workshop manager and 15 years for Mathilde as business manager.
