A man was seriously injured after falling on the RER A rails, following an intervention by RATP security officers. If the circumstances remain to be clarified, an investigation for “attempted murder” has been opened.
A young man was seriously injured this Thursday, November 14, after being hit by an RER A train, at the Nanterre-Université station, announced the RATP in a press release, thus confirming initial information from the Actu17 site.
As the transport authority specifies, the victim was knocked off balance “during an intervention by an RATP security team”, before falling on the rails and being hit “by a train arriving at the platform” .
According to the emergency services, cited by the RATP, “the victim's vital prognosis is not in jeopardy”. Firefighters and SAMU treated the victim on site, before transporting him to a hospital.
“The RATP victim assistance unit was immediately triggered, and the RATP will continue to keep itself informed of developments in the victim’s state of health,” writes the authority.
Several investigations opened, police custody in progress
While the circumstances of the facts remain to be determined, the Nanterre public prosecutor's office confirms to BFMTV that an investigation has been opened by “retaining the highest legal qualification at this stage of attempted murder”. Qualifications may thus evolve over the course of the investigations.
A “custody has been in progress since 2:45 p.m.” this Thursday, underlines the Nanterre prosecutor's office, specifying at the same time that the investigation was entrusted to the railway networks brigade of the Local Security Directorate of the Paris metropolitan area (DSPAP).
At the same time, an internal investigation was requested by Jean Castex, the boss of RATP. The investigations will be carried out “in conjunction with the federation of user representative associations which sits on the RATP Board of Directors”.
“The RATP provides the justice system with all the elements at its disposal,” adds the authority in its press release.
According to the RER A account A gradual resumption of traffic has been underway since 5:30 p.m., with RER traffic having been temporarily interrupted between Nanterre-Université and Nanterre-Préfecture.
