“He was at the back of the train, he hid his head in a sweater.” While she thought she had “a simple attacker” arrested, a 26-year-old woman, who had just been hit by this man on the train, actually allowed the arrest of the main suspect in the murder of a homeless man, killed with a concrete block in Lyon on Monday. This individual is also suspected of being the author of three other attempted homicides in France and in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Tuesday evening, Marjorie, an IT consultant, takes the train from Marseille Saint Charles to return home to Toulon, she tells Parisian. In the carriage, she comes across a man whom she describes as disturbing, black hooded, sweater tied around his neck, face almost hidden, who jostles her “strongly with a shove of the shoulder”.
When she demands an apology from him, he refuses and kicks her hard in the back. “Out of fear, I told him to go far away,” she told the newspaper. To which the individual replied: “ I see you, I wait for you [je te vois, je t’attends, en français]. » “I started to get really scared,” she says.
The young woman filed a complaint and decided to file a civil suit
After this attack and these strange threats, the young woman sent an SMS to the SNCF emergency number. Quickly, the controllers came to her and asked her for the description of her attacker. Accompanied by the controllers to identify the individual, she walks up the aisles “without staring at people” and ends up coming across him. “He was at the back of the train, he hid his head in a sweater,” she remembers. The controllers then put him safely in their box, stopped the train and asked the passengers to wait while a message was broadcast, avoiding arousing the attacker's suspicions.
The police were able to arrest the suspect in Toulon. The latter presented himself as a 32-year-old Cameroonian. After checking the wanted persons file, the investigators realized that he was subject to an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF) and that he was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by an investigating judge from Evry, according to the Toulon public prosecutor's office.
For her part, Marjorie, who suffers from “quite a pain in the back”, filed a complaint, she told the Parisian. She also decided to file a civil suit, “because it is necessary, to go further and to prevent him from doing it again”.
