This town of Seine-Saint-Denis will host an XXL data center by 2025

Dugny (Seine-Saint-Denis) will host the largest data center in and the construction site must begin by the summer of 2025. In preparation for this work which should last between three and four years and cost 2 billion euros, the public inquiry will end on November 15, reported The Parisian Wednesday.

It is the Americans from Digital Realty, world leaders in the field, who are leading this project. With 41,500 m2 of floor space, the site, installed on ten hectares of former military land, should dethrone the current largest data center in France located in , also in Seine-Saint-Denis.

A key department

This new center confirms the department's role as the preferred location for data centers in the country, thanks to its numerous wastelands and its proximity to the cable highways leaving . The area now has around thirty of these structures. However, it was overtaken by Essonne, which is home to around forty out of a total of 159 centers in the region.

Still, this concentration displeases some people. The National Movement for the Fight for the Environment (MNLE) thus regretted that the future Dugny data center would be located 50 m from homes, fearing risks for the environment and the health of local residents. Digital Realty has ensured that it complies with all French pollution regulations. The report of the public inquiry, which mobilized little, is expected on December 15.
