WEATHER – The gloomy weather in Lille, Paris or Rennes is confirmed by the figures. In the north of France, since November 1, there have been no “usually no sunny days”corresponding to more than 80% of sunshine on a day, reports Météo-France in an article published Wednesday, November 13. The atmosphere is completely different in the south, which experiences excessive sunshine.

From November 1 to 11, 2024, “the powerful anticyclone over central Europe imposed generally calm but gray conditions on the northern half of France”explains the national forecaster. In other words, the weather was dry but the fog obscured the sun.
Rennes, fog champion
Result: the vast majority of northern regions experienced a duration of sunshine of less than 15 hours between November 1 and 11, i.e. “ a deficit of between 90% and 50%”compared to reference averages over the period 1991-2020. As you can see in the map belowthe areas in gray are those lacking sunshine since the beginning of the month.
The medal for grayness goes to Rennes, in Ille-et-Vilaine, with only 25 minutes of sunshine recorded by Météo-France stations since November 1st. The people of Dijon have not seen much sun either, with only 1 hour and 56 minutes of sunshine in eleven days. As for Paris, the Montsouris station recorded 9 hours of sunshine, a drop of 86% compared to seasonal norms, note The Parisian.
The situation is quite different in the south, which always experiences spring in the middle of November. There is also too much sun there. from +30 to +80% »specifies Météo-France. Perpignan experienced more than 40 hours under the sun, while Grenoble enjoyed 60 hours and Ajaccio, in Corsica, more than 80 hours.
Good news nevertheless for French people living in the northern half: the sun makes a comeback everywhere in France on Friday and Saturday, according to Météo-France forecasts. Thanks to the change in direction of the winds which will chase away the clouds and mist, even Rennes will be entitled to its quarter of an hour of sunshine from Friday.
