Why will the Socomex brand leave Villeneuve-sur-Lot?

the essential
Since 1990, the Socomex brand, created by Gérard Meinier, has attracted all eyes at the corner of Avenue de Fumel. Within a month, it will disappear from the landscape, only to reappear further away.

“It’s true that this window was very well placed” has always noted Gérard Meinier, creator of the Socomex brand installed for more than 30 years at the very beginning of Avenue de Fumel. “Lots of passing cars, the traffic light right in front, the school behind. It was the ideal location. But you have to know how to evolve with the new constraints. So I decided to move to Bias.”

For more than 30 years, Gérard Meinier has been selling kitchens, but also inserts and wood stoves in this strategic location. “In terms of wood heating installations, our order book is full for the next 4 or 5 months.” No need to worry on that front.

“If I move, it's mainly due to warehouse and parking problems. I created the brand in 1984, and I moved here in 1990. Whether for customers or for deliveries, it becomes difficult to approach, park or store all the products I have.”

A move to avenue de Bias

When you make such a decision to move, you still need to have suitable premises. But Gérard Meinier is full of resources. “A few years ago, I acquired the buildings of the Pividori establishments on avenue de Fumel. I moved my activities there, including the legendary Lafont hardware store. I have large sales areas there, a large warehouse and a large parking lot And above all good visibility on this busy road.

Once the decision to move was made, work had to begin in the empty part of this building to make it the new Socomex store. “The work is being finalized and in less than a month, the Socomex brand will change host municipality, but still in the territory of Greater Villeneuvois. From Villeneuve, I will move to Bias”.

For the business manager, this development is essential to the sustainability of the activity. “The heavy goods vehicles that came to deliver to me had too much difficulty unloading and I had storage problems. I really lacked space.” And as everyone can see every day, people are increasingly reluctant to park a few hundred meters from the businesses they visit. “In Bias, I have a large parking lot, right in front of the stores. It’s a site that has a lot of development potential. It’s essential that I evolve, I’m doing this for my children.”
