Smoke escaping into the sky over Génicourt (Val-d'Oise). It was 12:45 p.m. when the alert was given, Wednesday November 13, 2024. An important fire declared itself at the level of a grain silo serving to store grain within the Alternae company.
For a reason which remains to be determined, the disaster broke out in a drying column of the 30 meter high agricultural building which contained 110 tonnes of corn.
92 firefighters mobilized, three hoses deployed
While the traffic was cut off on the D22significant resources were deployed by the Val-d'Oise departmental fire and rescue service. Throughout the day, 92 firefighters were mobilized. The latter deployed three spears to put out the flames. At the same time, the dryer was emptied by the company.
Agents from the Regional and Interdepartmental Directorate for the Environment, Planning and Transport (Drieat) also visited the site and the disaster was brought under control during the afternoon. However, the firefighters remained on site until late in the evening to prevent any risk of a resumption of the disaster, although at 8 p.m. the presence of hot spots was still noted. The intervention finally ended around 1 a.m.
If the fire did not cause any injuries and should not lead to technical unemployment within the company, a prefectural decreeshutting down the damaged silo, was however taken.
