and the three crises [L’éditorial de CL]

Certainly, the causes of this situation are often old and the consequences predicted by experts. The fragility of certain Michelin sites, such as the difficulties of Auchan or the problems of rail freight with the decisions of the European Union, have been known for a long time. But the government's inability to take measures to remedy this is a challenge. Paralyzed by political instability, an abysmal deficit and worrying economic prospects possibly aggravated by the new isolationist policy of the United States, the Prime Minister has to date provided no response to the growing malaise. Better yet, it suggests that more bad news is to be expected, accentuating the anxiety of the least advantaged social categories.

The ingredients of a social crisis come together with the corollary of a protest movement. The trade union organizations, still bruised by their defeat during the pension reform and the contempt for social dialogue shown by previous governments, seem determined to launch into a new battle with the air of revenge. In the coming weeks, railway workers and civil servants have planned to launch a movement whose scale no one can anticipate. In a political climate as tense as it is illegible, the superposition of three crises risks plunging the country into a lasting impasse.
